Healing, repentance and humility
Pride is a roadblocks to healing. God resists the proud but grace to the humble. James 4:6 "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Humility brings protection and promotion. It's being interdependent with God, not independent. When you are independent, you have to do it my way, when you want and how you want. You do not want to listen to those in authority. In 2 Kings, Naaman's pride almost caused him to miss his miracle.
Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a man of position, authority and highly regarded. He was a courageous soldier but he had a serious problem, he had leprosy. Leprosy can come in many forms. You can have leprosy in your soul through rebellion, self-will and sin. God wants us to get cleansed of all forms of leprosy. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9 NKJV) It doesn't matter what your rank, position, authority, abilities, God calls each one of us to walk in humility. James 3:13 "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom." We all need the wisdom to walk in humility.
The definition of humility is submissiveness, meekness, unassertiveness, servility. The word humility in the Greek is praýtēs (compare 4236 /praótēs, another feminine noun which is also derived from the root pra-, emphasizing the divine origin of the meekness) – meekness ("gentle strength") which expresses power with reserve and gentleness. God wants us to walk in His power but knowing when we are to submit to the authorities He has put in our lives in gentleness and reserve.
Naaman brought a message was sent to the king Israel and the king became very upset thinking the King of Aram was trying to pick a fight asking him to cure Naaman. The enemy loves to stir up trouble in way he can to keep people from receiving their healing. The minute you decide you're going to a healing service or healing school, the enemy will bring a situation to get someone upset or a problem to keep you from the hearing the Word and receiving your miracle.
When Elisha heard of this, he asked for Naaman to come to him. Naaman showed up with his horses and chariots and stopped at Elisha's door for his healing. This just shows how Naaman really thought he was something. He shows up with all this men ready for his quick fix. Just pray over me so I can get on with my life and what I am doing. I don't even have the time or enough respect to get off my 'high horse' and come in and hear what the man of God has to say.
So Elisha sends his messenger to tell Naaman to 'go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan and your flesh will be restored and cleansed.' Now look how Naaman reacts, it says he went away angry. Anger is a reaction of pride. It is saying, "I want my way!" It is saying, 'I know what's right more than you!" Why is it that a man of God can be a pastor for many and yet those who have only been serving for several years or even months have a greater revelation or have heard the Lord say the most bizzarre things. It's because of a spirit of pride.
He said, "I thought....." Another response to pride is the use of the word "I" because everything is about self, independence and what 'I' want and when and how I want it. Pride says, "I am going to do it my way even if those in authority over me have told me to do it different and if I don't get my way then I wil leave offended.' Naaman wanted Elisha to come out and stand and call the name of the Lord and wave his hand and cure him. He didn't want to dip especially in the dirty Jordan River. This happens so much in the body of Christ. Many have a greater revelation than the pastor, they feel they know what's best for the church or even better how to run the church. They do and say things that they have been told not to do and this is spiritual pride. It's the same with healing. God has clearly showed us throughout His Word ways to receive healing and yet many refuse to submit to God's Word and do not receive because of pride. No matter how you look at it, pride is disobedience and blocks healing.
Humility moves God releasing revelation and blessing. Is 1:19 "If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land." Naaman's servant had more spiritual sense than he did. She said, "If the prophet had told you to do some great thing, wouldn't you have done it. So why not go and wash and be cleansed!" God knows just what each person needs and unless we are humble enough to listen and obey, no matter had ridiculous or unpleasant then that is pride. When you are humble, you are willing to do what the Lord wants and is speaking through His spiritual leaders. You are willing to listen to the leaders and authority that God has put over you; you are not driven by circumstances but by every Word from the mouth of God; you are not concerned about performance but His presence; you hear the voice of the Lord and walk in the spirit. This is what releases the power of God.
So Naaman finally got the revelation and he went and dipped in the Jordan River seven times. Seven is the number of perfection or maturity and completeness. God was bringing him into a maturity in authority that is released only as your submit to authority. He was made complete spirit, soul and body as he submitted to the man of God. He was repenting for his pride and disobedience. He wasn't stripped of his position, authority, rank in the army but as he submitted he was given greater authority because he no longer had leprosy to hold him back in anyway.
2 Kings 5:13 "Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” 14So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy."
Humble yourself and dip in the Lord's cleansing waters of deliverance from the leprosy of spiritual pride and receive your healing!
